Quick awesome newsflash

After surviving a day of anxiety and testing, I have tested to A- skater status!  I can finally be drafted onto a team and officially scrimmage with my fellow Denver Roller Dolls!  I am so, so happy!!!

a new blog, and derby time

If you have any interest, here is the link to my (very) new style blog.  No pressure or anything, it is just an experiment at the moment.  I'll continue to post pictures of flowers and bugs and roller derby and my back porch and whatnot on here.

Also, I have TEST UPS tomorrow for derby, so I have another opportunity to move up to a team on the Denver Roller Dolls.  I am so nervous and excited!

Scrimmage time!

My derby game is improving all the time, and that makes me so happy.  I'm hoping to test up to bouting level really soon.  I was allowed to participate in a scrimmage on Sunday, and I was thrilled to discover that one of our photographers got some awesome action shots with me in them. All of these photos were taken by Joel "Shutter Up" Giltner in our fantastic practice space, the Glitterdome.

Catching up!

Sometimes, I feel like I can actually be a good jammer! :)

Snowy weekend

I really love super snowy weekends.  Last weekend, Denver got a TON of snow, and I was fortunate enough to be able to skip out on work on Friday.

I love it when I have the time and correct ingredients to try out new recipes- I highly recommend both of these.

Roasted Delicata Squash - Simple.  Easy.  Amazing.

Eggplant Bake - Also simple and delicious.  I used Havarti cheese instead of Muenster, and it was really tasty.

delicata squash

Just add olive oil and a touch of sea salt...

Messy, and totally worth it!
My poor, poor truck...

One week after the storm and we still have plenty of icicles!

Husby has made a tradition of tossing our cats into the snow on our back porch every time we get a snow storm.  Guillermo was less than thrilled...

how can I face this?

I asked the universe for 2012 to be a year of strength, and I suppose this is my first major test.

I need to add cheeseburgers to the menu for this year's dia de los muertos.

I don't know how to describe how special my uncle was to me and to my family.  I could never do him justice.  His rooster dance, his rendition of the Davy Crockett theme song and joy in food and drink and ability to never, ever forget a face or a name don't paint the whole picture.  His death brought my broken family back together, at least momentarily.

I am forever grateful that I was able to be at his side during his last moments.

I love you, Adrian.

I'll get back to normal, happier things soon.

Just about a year and a month after I started this blog...

This post is pretty long and self indulgent.  But I find writing here to be therapeutic.  Feel free to skip what you want, I put some pictures in at the end.

...

Goodness, I am not a faithful blogger.  My apologies for that, if you happen to get some strange kick out of my pictures.  These last few months have been overwhelming in good and bad ways.  I've been feeling melancholy and unsettled for a while now.

I got what I wanted; when I started this blog just over a year ago, I wanted my life to be different.  I wasn't even sure about exactly what things I wanted to change, but I wanted it SO badly.  I met many of my goals that I set when I started this blog.  I was accepted into grad school and the Denver Roller Dolls.  But somehow, I find myself in yet a different place then where I thought I would be.

I don't particularly want to go through my goals and make a formal blog post about it.  2011 was a year of change, and that's exactly what I was looking for.  I wish for 2012 to be a year of strength.  Mentally and physically.

What have I been doing this last couple of months?

Becoming the secretary of the board of directors for the Denver Roller Dolls.  Knitting for people that aren't me.  Escaping from a job that was making me miserable, and finding a new start right down the street.  Starting spectacular fights with Husby, and then talking it out.  Being an ear for my mother and mother in law to vent to.  Saying goodbye to the year that took my Grandpa and my Tia, and hello to the year that will likely take my uncle.  Taking my first cruise.  Climbing rocks, and taking pictures of bugs.  Drinking maybe a little too much on a couple of occasions.  Painting a mask, and dancing with my derby wife.  Trying to be a better feminist and a better employee.  Learning which things are okay to just not give a shit about.  Hugging my kitties.  Loving a video game.  Watching sunrises.

I really enjoy fashion blogs, and style in general.  I think I'm going to maybe partially make this into a fashion blog.  Style gives me confidence, and it makes me happy.  I can use both confidence and happiness.  Onward!

I refuse to be interviewed in a boring outfit.

I got to visit a CACTUS FARM!

Plantains!  I recently prepared and tried them for the first time!

Lordy, I love sunrises...

BEHOLD!  My messy living room!

another reason to have a blog

I love that when I write on here, it doesn't matter if I have a typo.  I can't accidentally email it to the wrong Tony.  I don't have to rescan it four times.  Freedom!

So much to do, and so much to look forward to!
